Dear Residents,
How has the last week of March been treating you? Can you feel the sound of crisp leaves beneath your feet slowly dying out as summer slowly but surely approaches us?
This Sunday, we’re celebrating William Morris’s 191st birthday! You might be wondering who is William Morris, and why should you care about him ? William Morris was a British artist, designer, and writer who led the Arts and Crafts Movement, championing handcrafted art over mass production. His intricate, nature-inspired wallpaper and textile designs — rich in floral and organic motifs — remain iconic to this day. He was also a big inspiration behind our very own Red House ! Find out how in this upcoming event 👀

In honour of Morris’s legacy, we’re hosting a ‘wall-patterning via stencilling’ workshop inspired by his wonderful 19th century wallpapers on March 30! The workshop will involve you creating your own floral stencils, in William Morris’s style itself, and using these stencils to create recurrent organic patterns on various surfaces. In typical Red House fashion, valuable details about the history of patterns, as also the intricacies of stencilling to produce said patterns will be shared. Led by Arjun Shivaji Jain — our Director and a Central Saint Martins graduate — this hands-on session requires no materials from your end.
Fun fact: Arjun was also the first Young Companions’ Representative of the Guild of St George, founded by John Ruskin, Morris’s mentor, in 1871!
