New Post

I suddenly felt as if I were taking off. You too were poised on one leg, as if the little room could no longer contain you. You soared up to the ceiling. Your head turned down to mine and turned mine up to you, brushing against my ear and whispering something.
– Bella Rosenfeld to Marc Chagall

Dear Residents,

This August, for the first time ever, Red House invites you into a dreamlike circle in the tradition of the old French salons. Come sit with us in the hush of a slow sunlit Sunday, as we drift gently into one of the most enduring mysteries of the artist’s life: the Muse.

Is she real? A phantom? A scent? A memory?
Is she a person, a moment, a city, a heartbreak?

We will gather to speak of that letter you never sent, of that stranger who walked past whose scent you still remember, and to ask of ourselves, and each other - honestly and boldly - what it means to cherish something, to love it, and to lose it? And what remains after? And what indeed is the Muse after all? And can one really live without it?

From Dante’s Beatrice and Rossetti’s Siddal to the fleeting stranger whose gaze you never forgot, we gather to speak, in all honesty, of love, longing, memory, and the inspiration that refuses to let us go.

Led by Red House’s own Director, Arjun Shivaji Jain, this intimate salon promises more quiet depth than even our Virginia Woolf writing circles. Expect soul-stirring conversation, tender silences, and maybe, just maybe, a bit of flight.

Also featuring specially-prepared vegetarian Belarussian-French fare in honour of Marc Chagall, courtesy the Coilwinders' Arms Café.
