We are thrilled to announce an exciting workshop for aspiring documentary filmmakers! Led by the award-winning independent writer, director, and producer Surbhi Dewan, this upcoming DIY-style documentary filmmaking workshop is designed to help you create your very first documentary and share it with the world!

In this three-hour, interactive session, Surbhi will guide you through all stages of documentary filmmaking. You will learn about:

  • Research

  • Development

  • Fundraising

  • Pre-production

  • Production

  • Post-production

  • Marketing

  • Distribution

About the instructor: Surbhi Dewan’s interests lie at the intersection of socio-political conflict, displacement, memory and identity. Her notable films include ‘Trans Kashmir’ (which we screened at the Red House Independent Film Festival last year!), ‘An Open Sky’ and ‘Daughter of Nepal’. She has also co-produced the feature documentary ‘A Thin Wall’, which shares personal narratives from the Partition of India. Surbhi was recently selected for a Doc Impact Lab and Mov(i)ements Fellowship by Ethno Kino, and her feature-length documentary film 'Trans Kashmir' has won several awards including 'Best Documentary Film' at SiGNS Kerala and UK Asian Film Festival, and is currently streaming on Amazon Prime UK, Kanopy and Cinelogue. Currently, Surbhi is developing a feature documentary, ’There Is Gold In Lhasa’ - a feminist retelling of a historic trade route between Nepal and Tibet.
